of victory!
Yes, the Aditya Birla Group Corporate Sporting
Challenge team of the Standard Chartered Mumbai
Marathon 2008 comprising Atul Daga (Aditya
Birla Retail), Ketan Mirchandani (Birla
Sun Life Insurance), Sunil Dhawan (Birla
Cellulose), Tapan Kandalgaonkar (Idea
Cellular), Vinayak Kamath (Hindalco
Industries) and Wasim Khan (Birla Sun
Life Insurance) led the Aditya Birla Group
to the victory stand finishing in second place.
All six of them truly were the torch bearers
of the Aditya Birla Group among the huge sea
of 33,000 people. Displaying the Group values
of commitment, speed, passion and seamlessness
they have indeed done us proud.
The
six of them participated as the Aditya Birla
Group team in the relay event of the Mumbai
Marathon 2008, where each one had to cover
a distance of 7 km, a
true
test of their stamina and speed. They clocked
the 42 km stretch in 3 hours 58 minutes finishing
in second place after LIC whose team comprised
all professional state and national level
athletes. Our six champions went through rigorous
training for two weeks every day after office
hours at the race course under the guidance
of Captain Tapan (also part of the team) who
comes from an army background.
Our
team was felicitated at a formal presentation
ceremony held after the race where the presence
of our Chairman, Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla
and Mrs. Neerja Birla added to the highly
charged up atmosphere and heightened the spirit
of the team.
