The
Group's joint ventures in Egypt include its carbon
black business at Alexandria Carbon Black Company
SAE, and also a new unit being set up to produce
acrylic fibre, Alexandria Fiber Company, SAE.
Alexandria
Carbon Black Company SAE is an Indo-Egyptian joint
venture of the Aditya Birla Group with the Egyptian
Government. It is the only producer of carbon
black in the Middle East and North African region.
Established in 1994 with an initial capacity of
20,000 tpa, the company has since grown to 2,85,000
tpa, making it the world's largest carbon black
plant at a single location. It takes pride in
being the fastest-growing carbon black company
in the world. It is also considered to be the
most modern and sophisticated plant with the capability
to produce high value premium grades of carbon
black and is the preferred supplier of global
tyre majors.
The company produces various grades of carbon
black, a very fine black powder pelleted in granular
form, used mainly in the rubber industry. About
80 per cent of the carbon black produced in the
world is utilised by the tyre industry. It is
also used in the manufacture of inks, dyes, paints,
cables and plastics.
Marketed under the brand name Birla
Carbon, the company exports 95 per cent of
its products to over 50 countries across the globe
including the US, UK, France, Italy, Germany and
Spain. The company has established Decanting Stations
in UK and Belgium and a new one is coming up in
Spain.
