Tanfac
Industries Limited is a joint venture company
promoted by the Aditya Birla Group and the Tamil
Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO).
Incorporated in 1972, it is one of India's largest
suppliers of fluorine chemicals with its plant
and facilities spread over 65 acres in the chemical
complex of Cuddalore, near Chennai in southern
India.
Tanfac is engaged in the manufacture of Inorganic
and organic based chemicals such as aluminium
fluoride and hydrofluoric acid with a capacity
of 17,000 tpa in each. Inorganic fluorine based
chemicals have vital applications in industries
such as aluminium smelting, petroleum refining,
refrigerant gases, steel re-rolling, glass, ceramics,
sugar, fertilisers, heavy water, etc. Organic
fluoro chemicals are used as intermediates in
the manufacture of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals.
Having started as a single product company, producing
Aluminium fluoride, Tanfac has now diversified
into various speciality fluoride products, with
exports to countries across the globe including
USA, Europe, Australia, New Zealand,
Singapore, Thailand and Middle East.
The unit derives its competitive edge through
worldclass technology tie-ups with global majors
for the manufacture of aluminium fluoride - viz.,
Davy Process
Technology (Switzerland) and CHENCO (Germany).
Certified for Quality Systems under ISO 9002 and
Environment Management Systems under ISO 14001,
Tanfac is the first chemicals company in the world
to get the TPM (Total Productive Maintenance)
Excellence - First Category Award in November
1999 followed by the TPM Consistency Award in
2002.
An important contributor to the country's foreign
exchange coffer, Tanfac earns valuable foreign
exchange. A stronger focus on R&D activities
will go towards developing new value-added fluorine
/ speciality chemicals.
Despite
producing and handling the most hazardous products,
Tanfac has maintained an excellent track record
in safety since inception.
